First acceptance in a while. Event is taking a poem. Remember "Things I don't say to the woman beside me in the bookstore reading How to be Creative (If You Thought You Never Could)"? (They took a more polished draft than the early ones posted here). I've been in Eventonce before, but am still thrilled. It's a favourite magazine. (Also, they reply really fast!) I send them my chatty prosey weird ode-to-Raab stuff.
Descant -- high on my wish list -- also wants to take work. Unfortunately the three poems they want ("Crossing," "Wearing the Sun," and "Graft") are from Ghost Maps, though "Graft" had to be cut. Yes, I was good; yes, I did notify them back in February, both my letter and phone. But these things happen. And it's nice to get an acceptance, even one I can't accept.
Finally, the new Waterloo Regional Arts Foundation has invited a second-round submission to their grant process. I had filed a letter of intent to fund taking Ghost Maps into history classrooms locally. I'm excited about this -- and terrified that I have to have a full proposal ready in two weeks. Eek!
Getting Writers' Reserve applications out tonight. More on that tomorrow, probably.

If "Graft" was cut from the collection, why couldn't you still let Descant publish that? Or are they only wanting to publish them as a group?
Amanda -- not sure what the fate of "Graft" will be. You're right that
they might take it. But it is very short -- only four lines.

Unfortunately, though, "Crossing" and "Wearing the Sun" were included in my recently published book, *Ghost Maps: Poems for Carl Hruska*. ("Graft" was one of several poems trimmed for length reasons -- it has never been published.) You may recall I wrote a letter and made a phone call to withdraw these poems back in February, when the publication date of *Ghost Maps* was moved up to September.�
You are welcome to take "Graft" -- it's one of my favourite pieces, and I hated to loose it from the book. I'd be delighted to see it in Descant.�
"Graft" is a bit short, though, and it been my experience it usually works best in a pairing or group. I know it's unorthodox to the point of being rude, but may I suggest this as a good pairing for "Graft," and a very suburban poem:
