Let's all go to the library

I've posted this before, but just a reminder that there are two events coming up this week at the main branch of the Kitchener Public Library.

On Wednesday at 7:00, we are celebrating Canada Book Day with the annual readers' panel. We'll be downstairs in the auditorium, and spilling out into the gallery. The press release says the event will be "ebullient," so come get a referent for that. I've had a great time for three years running now -- almost always discover a new book to become an old friend. Tickets are $10 and are available at the door. This event is sponsored by the New Quarterly, and supports the Literacy Group of Waterloo Region.

On Thursday, I am reading poetry in the lounge (where they keep the magazines). I'm the library's nod towards poetry month. We'll be talking in loud voices and drinking punch near the books with full approval of library staff -- heady stuff. The New Quarterly will be available for sale in a nice low-key way, but the event is free and family-friendly.

Speaking of TNQ, go us! Two finalists for the presitigious National Magazine Awards this year, one
in fiction (Anne Fleming's "Gay Dwarves of America," which I've gushed about here before) and one in poetry (Alison Pick's "Question and Answer" -- likewise.)
